AJ has clawed back the one-point deficit. Goals from Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane (IN AUGUST FFS) and Alvaro Morata pipped Jake’s predictions of Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku. For some reason, Jake thought it was a class idea to include injured Kevin de Bruyne. Gimp.
Matchday 1 score: Jake 2-3 AJ
Overall score: Jake 4-4 AJ
Laurent Depoitre (HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v cardiff city)
Not the obvious scorers I’ve been going for as of late but Cardiff City are definitely there for the taking on their travels. This is probably the most likely of the games this weekend to end 0-0 but I see a Huddersfield win and if it’s not Depoitre it’ll be Mooy or Mounie.
Mo Salah & Roberto Firmino (LIVERPOOL v brighton & hove albion)
I’ll group these two together. Liverpool are in absolutely imperious form in the opening stage of the season. Brighton are definitely on their hit list despite heroics last Sunday at home to Manchester United. Brighton are especially vulnerable on the road and if Liverpool stride through the gears, it could be carnage on Saturday night. Salah could get a couple and I’d expect Firmino to add to that. A first goal from Naby Keita is a possibility but a bit left-field.
Aleksandar Mitrovic (FULHAM v burnley)
We all saw what Watford did to Burnley after their European escapades last Sunday afternoon. Watford scored their first away goals of the calendar year so god knows what the extraordinarily hyped Fulham could do to them. Burnley had a difficult trip to Greece on Thursday so preparation will be tight ahead of a long trip to West London. Fulham to win the match and Mitrovic to cause havoc against a tired, weak defence. Ryan Sessegnon in for a man of the match performance.
Salomon Rondon (NEWCASTLE UNITED v chelsea)
A potential first start for Newcastle’s newest striker. Chelsea looked defensively inept in periods of their 3-2 home win over Arsenal so if the Newcastle fans get on their backs it could be a similar story. Rondon to net Newcastle’s goal here in a tight affair.
Ruben Neves (WOLVES vs manchester city)
I’m not saying I expect Wolves to win this one but I expect them to put up a decent fight, lead by the talismanic Neves who is the most likely scorer for Nuno’s men.
Mo Salah (LIVERPOOL v brighton & hove albion)
Got to cancel Jake out again. He’s got it spot on. Liverpool are rampant at the moment and so is Salah, making the most of his fitness following a short and brief World Cup campaign.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ARSENAL vs west ham united)
Provided the miss of the season last week at Stamford Bridge, which surely means he’s gonna score the next chance he gets, right?
Harry Kane (manchester united vs SPURS)
Kane kicked on and got his first league August goal last week, fully expect him to carry on in a good vein of form against a struggling United defence.
BIG CENK (EVERTON vs Bournemouth)
Everton have been in good shape so far this season and you get the sense the Silva reign will be a relative success, Tosun has the comfort of not really having his posistion challenged by anyone else and I think this will relax him and enable him to score plenty this season, starting against the inferior Cherries this Saturday.
